ok heres my problem:
I cannot afford a pcie 16 2.0 slot mobo, but i want to get a 2.0 card b/c they have noticabley better gpus. so, can i get a 2.0 card and put it in a pcie regualr slot? |

Yes! The cards don't even use all the features of 2.0 yet. Current new cards work fine on 1.0 PCI

No. The connections are designed differently. You can't put a PCIe card in a PCI slot, and you can't put a PCI card in a PCIe slot. You can get a converter to put a PCI card in a PCIe slot, but it won't fit directly, and there's no way to covert a PCI slot to a PCIe slot. So a new motherboard is your only option.

yes you can they are backward compatible, BUT if you can afford a 2.0 card then you can afford to shell out $100 for a motherboard...

It'll work just fine. I have a 2.0 card in a 1.0 slot. No problems!
